The Court of Justice is the judicial authority of the EU that ensures compliance with the EU rules and their uniform application in all Member States.

The Court of Justice has an important role for the proper implementation of the EIA Directive, knowing the judgments is therefore necessary for a better understanding of its contents and objectives.

Periodically, the European Commission publishes reports that put together the most important decisions of the European Court of Justice regarding the EIA Directive originating by Member States non-compliance with the Directive or by requests submitted to the Court for a preliminary ruling by the Member States.

The recently published report "Environmental Impact Assessment - Rulings of the Court of Justice" contains the declarations of the Court of Justice concerning the general principles of the EIA Directive and specific cases related to the application of its provisions, together with the main judgments.
