By letters dated 14 January 2015 and  18 February 2015, Italy has shown to the Republic of Croatia interest in participating in the SEA procedure of the "Framework Plan and Programme for Exploration and Production of Hydrocarbons in the Adriatic", as provided for by Directive 2001/42/EC and SEA Protocol to the Espoo Convention on environmental impact assessment in a transboundary context (signed in Kiev in 2003).

By letter dated 26 February 2015, the Republic of Croatia notified Italy the start of the transboundary consultations.

Following this notice, the Ministry of the Environment informed the Regions concerned (Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Marche, Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia) about the start of the consultation.

The deadline for submitting comments on the Plan by Italy is the 4th of May 2015.

Based on the documentation submitted by the Republic of Croatia (see Annexes below) anyone can submit comments to this Ministry by 20 April 2015:

  • in writing to the Ministry of the Environment - Directorate General for Environmental Assessments and Permits - Division II Environmental Assessment Systems, Via Cristoforo Colombo 44, 00147 Rome;
  • electronically, by certified email to DGSalvaguardia.Ambientale@PEC.minambiente.it.

The Ministry of the Environment will collect all comments received within the deadline, together with its own, and forward them to the competent Croatian authorities.
